Laser Fungal Nail Treatment (Onchymicosis)

Fotona’s ClearSteps™ Onychomycosis Treatment is a revolutionary, patient-friendly method for
treating onychomycosis (toenail fungus). It is a simple and effective procedure that uses the power
of Nd:YAG laser light to heat evenly throughout the depth of the effected nail and skin tissue,
effectively weakening and killing parasitic fungi which have infected the patient's nails.
Deep, pulse-profile heating of the nail bed stimulates the killing of parasitic fungus. The natural
growth and immune processes of the body are then able to restore the nail to its pristine state.
Compared to traditional methods, the effects of laser light spread evenly throughout the tissue and
are not subject to either the limits of chemical diffusion (as are topicals) or the induction of
hepatoxic side effects (as is the case with oral medications) with a success rate that exceeds
90%.

What are the benefits?

No side effects and no need for risky medications
No harm to the nail or skin
No anaesthesia needed
Usually only four to six sessions required

Shoes and nail polish can be worn immediately after treatment

How can I prepare for the laser treatment?

To prepare for a laser treatment for fungal nail infection it is usually advisable to first have a full
medical pedicure or see a Chiropodist. Reduction in the thickness of the infected nail will then
allow the laser light to penetrate as deep as possible to completely kill the infection. A medical
pedicure can also be carried out if you have unwanted dry skin, thick toenails, corns or calluses.
Your nails will immediately show a marked improvement.

How many treatments do I need?

The treatment is usually performed four times at one week intervals. In 15 minutes you can be
on the way to enjoying healthy, aesthetically pleasing nails without the dangerous side-effects
associated with anti-fungal drugs.. All of the nails should be treated, during every treatment, just in
case. Laser light can also effectively treat fungus which has infected skin tissue, a new healthy nail
will push the diseased portion out, which can then be cut or scraped away. Following the procedure
it is vital that you maintain a high level of hygiene and discard any socks that may have been
infected.

What can I expect from my Fungal Nail treatment?

If the nail bed is healthy the nail plate should grow out in six months to a year, with healthy new
growth visible within three months. Individual clients may need between 4-6 laser treatments to
ensure that each part of the growing nail has been treated. The number of procedures can vary
depending on the depth of the infection into the nail bed and for how long it has been there
